As an online business owner I’ve been hit by the recession, fortunately I’m in a niche business (search engine optimization services) where I’ve been turning potential clients away for years: I don’t run an online SEO business just to make money, I want to enjoy what I do so I’ve been very picky with which businesses I take on as clients and I’m very good at what I do, so there’s always been more potential SEO clients than I can cope with.

As my regular readers know I own a number of websites including one on the 2010 UK General Election where supporters of a fringe right-wing political party, The British National Party (BNP) are consistently arguing ALL immigration is bad for Britain (they want to close our borders and pay legal immigrants to leave!).

Total affiliate type revenue for December was $5,022.81 ($162.03 a day). That’s up 6 months in a row, just under $200 more than November and my 2nd best month so far since making these reports.

Well it was 3:30am in the morning and I’m just about to shut my PC down for the night and go to bed, when I get the following virus warning from Avast:

As soon as I realised it was SpyBot Search & Destroy I almost crapped my pants in panic! If that’s infected it must be a really BAD virus infection!!

Avast wouldn’t delete the file because it’s running and after scanning the Spybot – Search & Destroy folder with Avast I got multiple warnings of the same Win32:Delf-MZG [Trj] trojan virus infection!

Total affiliate type revenue for November was $4,807.53 ($160.25 a day). That’s up 5 months in a row, about $300 more than last month and my 3rd best month so far since making these reports. My best month was over $5,800+ when I had a REALLY good Clickbank sales month, (coincidentally this month last year) Clickbank sales are REALLY low this month ($200) if I can pull those back up, I might break new ground in the future.

Private sales are up again, less than $100 extra this month, but still up and nice to see it break the $3,000 mark for the first time. Nice increase in AdSense revenue, first serious rise (over $300 increase) for a long time, with Christmas on the way we should see more increases.

Really late on Octobers revenue report, just didn’t feel like doing one. Will be doing the November report right after this one. Total affiliate type revenue for October was $4,506.82 ($145.38 a day). That’s up 4 months in a row, about $200 more than last month and my 4th best month so far since making these reports.

Clickbank sales are still low, have to admit I’ve not spent any time on Clickbank recently, but really should. Spending way too much time on UK General Election 2010 site which makes little revenue, but has generated almost 900 comments in about two months, most about a far right political party called the BNP who have no serious hopes of gaining political power!

Total affiliate type revenue for September was $4,289.05 ($142.97 a day). That’s up 3 months in a row, about $450 more than last month, but still way off the November 2008 peak of almost $6,000.

At the beginning of the month my Clickbank revenue was non existent, at one point I thought Clickbank might be broken or something as not had a sale for over a week!! Despite this I made more money this month than last from Clickbank, due to a nice rally in the final week which resulted in over half the months sales.

I read a post at http://www.moneyhospital.co.uk/blog/post/could-you-actually-live-off-60-a-week-20183 regarding living off Job Seekers Allowance (the DOLE) which is apparently £60.50 a week now.

The user comments brought back memories and made me think some people would be better off starting their own business (self employed) rather than being registered as unemployed and claiming job seekers allowance (JSA) or income support (you claim income support if you haven’t paid enough national insurance contributions).

When I started my first business selling adult lingerie and sex toys I’d been out of University for about three years after leaving on medical grounds (chronic back pain, had a back operation earlier this year to fuse discs). I’d been unable to finish my degree in genetics or work due to disability and had been claiming income support on medical grounds (I wasn’t classed as unemployed, I was too disabled to work).

Total affiliate type revenue for August was $3,832.89 ($123.64 a day).

Another good month, up almost $400 on last month, (almost $1,000 compared to 2 months ago), still no improvement in Clickbank and just lost all my Amazon stores as Amazon updated it’s API and the Amazon script I’m using broke (need to find a new one)! That’s 2 months in a row increasing revenue after a 7 month stretch of revenue falling: best month was November 2008 with $5,802.50 earned, so still $2,000 down from that high (high was due to a Clickbank product updating).

Private sales have again increased, August made almost $2,300 and looks like I’m already at $2,600 for September. Going to keep working on private ad sales as this is nice growth.

Total affiliate type revenue for July was $3,453.12 ($111.39 a day).

Quite a good month, up almost $600, very good considering the downtrend I’ve experienced lately with Clickbank!

As mentioned last month put effort into private ad sales and that’s resulted in a $300+ increase in that area, looking at August revenue so far for private ad sales I’m at almost $2,000 (up another $200 almost). Still working on more private ad sales promotions, so with a little luck maybe make more than $2,000 in August.

Have created a little content for AdSense reasons in July, will take months for any revenue increases as on newish domains, also did a little link building work, the PR of my sites have died over the last year or so, used to have multiple PR6s and loads of PR5s, now finding it hard to find PR5 pages in my network!
